28/01/2010 - Shaykh Muhammad defends our Beloved Prophet S.A.W

In defence of the Prophet Muhammad, Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi delivered this past Friday a speech rebuking the Mufti of Syria, Shaykh Ahmad Hassoun, for his scandalous blasphemy against the Prophet S.A.W. He also demanded that the Mufti resign and leave public service out of embarrassment and shame before his Lord Allah and the Prophet S.A.W.

On Tuesday January 19, 2010, the Mufti of Syria made some very troubling remarks about the Prophet of Islam in front of an American delegation lead bythe Orthodox Rabbi Marc Gopin.

The Mufti's remarks, which were published in the Jerusalem Post and aired on Israeli Army Radio, included: “If the Prophet Muhammad had asked me to deem Christians or Jews heretics, I would have deemed Muhammad himself a heretic...If Muhammad had commanded us to kill people, I would have told him he was not a prophet...”

Shaykh Muhammad devoted his Friday speech on January 22nd to this subject refuting the Mufti and asserting the necessity to obey the Messenger of Allah in every command including the news about the Qur'an and the names of the Prophets.

In his speech, Shaykh Muhammad explained, “We know that Moses and Jesus are Prophets only because our Prophet Muhammad S.A.W told us so. Had he told us otherwise, we would have had to believe him.” He added, “Believing in Moses and Jesus does not imply the validity of Judaism and Christianity of today.”

The speech, which lasted for 40 minutes, addressed in detail the points Mufti Hassoun made afterwards in his attempt to clarify his outrageous remarks.

What is particularly troubling about the Mufti's remarks is that according to Jerusalem Post, the Israeli Radio Army aired Mufti Hassoun's statements to encourage Palestinians to protect Jewish settlers at the illegally occupied Palestinian territories.

Shaykh Muhammad ended his speech by asking Mufti Hassoun to resign his job out of embarrassment before Allah and His Messenger and protect the dignity of Islam and the integrity of the Ulema of Syria.

On the following day, and as a result of his speech, Shaykh Muhammad was sacked from his job as the Friday public speaker of Al-Hasan Masjid in the affluent Abu Rummaneh neighbourhood in Damascus.

Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi is a world-renowned sufi scholar, a charismatic public speaker in both Arabic and English, and well known for his encyclopaedic knowledge and powerful style of delivery. Several of his speeches, including the speech from last Friday, can be found on YouTube.

Commenting on the decision to ban him from public speaking, Shaykh Muhammad said, “This is nothing for the sake of the Beloved of Allah, our Master Muhammad S.A.W. The problem now is not whether I should be back to my job, but how to stop the Mufti of Syria from deforming Islam.”
